Goodbye Uncle Stan

I can't say I really knew my uncle except for the brief times spent with him and the stories Mom told us about him. I know that he loved much, lost much and struggled much. He always had a smile on his face and I loved him for the person I knew him to be.

Uncle Stan reminds me of Granny Visser whom I loved dearly. Mom and uncle Stan look so much alike that its easy to love his smiling face. It is sad knowing that he is no longer on this earth but I am grateful for the moments of time spent with him and the generous hugs he always gave me when I saw him. I hope to one day see him again.

Happy Birthday Jordan!

My eldest son turned 9 today...hard to believe he's in his last year of single digits but he's excited about it even if I'm not.

After church we went to Red Robin, our favorite haunt for birthdays. Jordan had his usual grilled-cheese-with-fries lunch and then the servers came around the table to sing 'Happy Birthday' to him and he got a free ice cream sundae.

Because parties are so expensive, we have come up with a new plan - have a party with friends or take $100 to spend as he wishes. He opted for the $100 because he can buy a lot of Legos with his money and he loves Legso. Needless to say, after church we went straight to Target so he could buy his Legos and he spent all of it right then and there. No saving for later!

To celebrate his birthday, as family we decided to go ten-pin bowling which is one of Jordan's favorite things to do.

Cullen doesn't enjoy competitive sports and never has so he puts up with ten-pin bowling but doesn't really enjoy it. As you can see, he found his own entertainment with a barstool.

We ended the day with chocolate cake while watching a movie of Jordan's choice in the basement. A great day had by all!
