Independence Day was established when American signed the "Declaration of Independence" on July 4, 1776 declaring independence from Great Britain and so its celebrated every July 4th with fireworks, baseball games, picnics, BBQs, parades, carnivals and concerts.
We try to get away as a family over long weekends and this weekend is no exception. We originally started out planning to go away as a family which then became a clandestine mission on Warren's part to get us away as a couple to celebrate our wedding anniversary (July 11th) which then became a 2-family get-away to Silverthorne.
We rented a condo with the Kaspers and spent the weekend lazing around, doing some sightseeing, going to the fireworks in Frisco (a nearby town), eating and watching DVDs.
The kids enjoyed doing crafts and swimming.
On Saturday morning I had to run a long run in preparation for the marathon I'm planning to run soon and decided on the bike path that runs out of Breckenridge town to many neighboring towns. The views are amazing and the path is a good one to run on. When I got back to Silverthorne, I managed to puncture my car tire and had to wait 1.5 hours for AAA to arrive to help me change the tire. The men had gone fishing and Stacey was at the condo looking after the kids while I was stuck in town.
On Sunday morning we went to Copper Mountain before heading on home and they had a mini-festival on the go with a live band and a few activities for kids and adults alike.
The town was promoting 'going green' and one of the art pieces that I thought was pretty cool was a recycled 'man' called Nova which was created by man using parts from his old Chevy Nova. The recycled Nova is upside-down because the creator was inspired by a skydiving event to create Nova this way. Pretty funky!
