Every Friday they open it up to the public and allow 10 people to attend as live audience members who sit in on the show to observe and participate. Its called Live Audience Friday. In order to get on the show, I had to email the producer and he confirmed a space for me in the audience for the 12th.
He also said I needed to bring a plate of 'goodies' so I made my mini banoffee pieshells and took those in. (Caramel, banana & whipped cream topping in mini pastry shells). I got to the radio studio at 5:45 am after driving around the building 3x to try and find a parking spot.
A restaurant called 'La Creperie Cafe' supplied breakfast which was a choice of delish crepes filled with either sweet or savory fillings. I chose a crepe filled with Nutella stuffed with bananas and strawberries. My kind of breakfast! Of course the owner gets to advertise the restaurant for free on the show which is a win-win situation for both audience and restaurant owner. We all got a coupon for a free breakfast crepe by the owner too!
It was a fun experience to see how the show is run and how they react to each other on and off the air. The hosts, Dom & Jane, have a great relationship and a great chemistry even though they aren't romantically involved. (She's married and he's dating a school teacher).
The producer and the executive producer who are in in their early 20's also take part in the show and the 4 of them make a good team. There was a lot of laughing and joking throughout the show. Its also a family show so they refrain from bad language and bad jokes (except off the air when they let down their guards and reveal their true skin!).
The boys and I listen to the show every morning on the way to school and they love it. They try and guess the 'Mind Bender' question each morning and if they miss the result of the Mind Bender, I have to listen to the show on the way to the work to find out the answer.
On Live Audience Friday each audience member participates in a quizz called 'Band or Bogus'. For the quizz, Dom gives out a name of a band and the audience member has to decide if it is a legitimate band name or a bogus name. They make up the bogus names during the week so I tried to listen to the station as much as possible during the week to catch the bogus names. Anyway, I got the question right and won tickets to the local amusement park (Elitch Gardens) and tickets to the Comedy Club which is downtown. I had my 45 seconds of air time where they asked me who I am, where I'm from, what I'm doing for my birthday, etc. It was fun.
That morning Warren took the boys to school for me and they all listened to the Dom and Jane show on the way in hoping to hear me but they missed hearing me because the Band or Bogus segment was closer to 10 am.
So it was a fun day to start my day and I can now cross that event off my 'list of things to do'.
