Cutty's Resort

Another camping trip but this time with me in tow. Cutty's Resort is 2.5 hours from our house and south-west of Colorado Springs. The campsite is big and caters to the tenter, the RV-er and also has a few cabins for those who want to camp but prefer a little bit of luxury. They have an outdoor and indoor pool both of which Warren and the boys made use of.

Our campsite (A3) was quiet, a little away from everyone else, shady and next to a stream.

We were warned about bears in the area and the night before we arrived, a bear had found its way into the resort and attempted to get into one of the bear-proof trash cans. We were warned to put all food, leftovers, trash and even clothing we'd worn around the fire into a locked car before going to bed. Apparently bears in this area know how to open car doors which made the boys a bit nervous.

We had Zulu with us as pets are allowed at Cutty's Resort and she warned us whenever people or other dogs strayed into our area so we were confident she'd wake us up if a bear wandered too close. She slept in the ten with us each night and she loved it although we woke up to her sleeping on top of one of the boys each night - I guess the ground got a bit cold for her.

We had good weather for the most part but we had afternoon thundershowers on both days. On Saturday night the rain didn't stop until later that evening so we had a smoky fire and everything now smells of campfire smoke even though I've washed the clothes and pillow cases.

I tried a new recipe for a dessert. Usually we settle with s'mores (Graham crackers, roasted marshmallows and a slice of Hershey bar) but this time I took flour tortillas, put chocolate chips, mini marshmallows and fresh raspberries on them, rolled them, wrapped them up in foil and cooked them in the coals. They were delish! Of course we had our usual banana boats which is bananas slit open on the inner side, stuffed with Hershey bar pieces and marshmallows before being wrapped in foil and cooked in the fire.

Warren took his fly fishing tackle with him and managed to catch a few 'brook trout' in the river that ran next to our campsite so he was pleased.

Both boys made a boat for me out of bits of bark, sticks and leaves. Cullen asked me to bring his home and I quietly put it into the car before we left to come home, knowing that it would be in 5 different pieces when we got home. Its now sitting in pieces under a bush in the front yard, yet to be noticed by Cullen.

Cullen lost his first baby tooth and rewarded by the Tooth Fairy with $3 which was the amount I had in my purse at the time - thankfully I had something because I think there would have been lots of tears if the Tooth Fairy hadn't come to get his tooth.
