Today the Soccer World Cup starts in South Africa and although we're far from all the action, excitement and festivities, we celebrated the start of the games here at home in our own way.
Warren wore his yellow Bafana shirt to work and took one of the boys' miners helmets complete with mini vuvuzela. Thanks Charlie for all the gear!!! Warren watched the match online at work and when South Africa scored a goal, he blew his vuvuzela which had people running to his office to find out what the noise was all about.

Jordan and I sat in bed while Bafana Bafana played and screamed at the TV as they scored the first goal of the match and screamed again when Mexico scored their goal...unhappily this time. We blew our vuvuzela and made a lot of noise while outside people were going about their business without any idea of how excited and patriotic we were being inside.
Seeing all the people on TV dressed in the green & yellow shirts, the painted faces, the national anthem made me very homesick but also very proud of my country. Although South Africa won't win the FIFA World Cup, having the games in my country is the next best thing to winning.

Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika!
