After church we headed to the fresh tree place to purchase our fresh tree. Other years we've used our artificial tree but this year a fresh tree is called for because the Radomskys are coming!
I was hoping for a 'movie moment' where everyone is dressed up in colorful clothing by The Gap, we are wandering in the woods trying to find that perfect tree, we chop it down and drag it back to the car while holding hands and singing "Its the Most Wonderful Time of the Year."
OK...minus the cheesy Christmas sweaters...you get the picture.
Instead, we went to a temporary Christmas tree lot that we'd driven past a few times. We were confronted by loud blaring Christmas music as we got out the car. An elf wearing a fake elf costume offered to guide us around the small tree lot. The poor elf was missing her front tooth and I wanted to tell her to ask Santa for a new one but I think her husband would have decked me a shot if I had.
The first tree we found was perfect...and I mean PERFECT. Its the best fresh tree we'd ever seen and this photo doesn't do it justice. (I forgot my camera at home so this was taken by my cell phone.) I was glad we had our tree after the 1st look because I wasn't excited about sifting through the rest of Toothless Elf's inventory while cars whizzed by at illegal speeds or so the music could continue to torture my eardrums.
Elf's son (who had all his teeth) chopped an inch off the end of the tree for us and then helped us load the tree onto the roof rack of the car.
This year the decorations are red and gold - I switch between the red/gold and the silver decorations from year to year but now I'm leaning towards a multi-colored tree so we need to watch the sales so I can get new tree decor (don't tell Warren - he thinks we have too much as it is.)
Once the perfect tree was safely inside our house, the boys helped decorate for a while. I welcomed their need for a break and once they were down in the basement watching a Christmas movie, I rearranged their decorations from the 'clump everything in the middle ' style to my 'spread the decorations around' style. They are none the wiser!
