Turkey Day - Down to Pagosa

The drive down to Pagosa Springs is always lovely. Its the end of Autumn in Colorado and although there are spots of green grass in places, most of the fields and valley have turned brown. I love spotting the cows in the fields with frost on their backs, all turned towards the sun to try and get warm. Poor cows.

I call "The Pagosa Drive" our 5-hour date because the boys usually watch movies while we travel which leaves Warren and I to plan Christmas and what we'd like to accomplish in the new year.

Warren can get a bit bored and given a piece of beef jerky (which in my opinion is flavored cardboard), he'll do anything to amuse himself and me.

It must be great to be a boy especially when 'ya gotta go.' I tried it once on the side of the road and nearly got frostbite on my butt so now I wear Depends on my trip down to Pagosa (just kidding although that isn't such a bad idea come to think of it!)

Whenever we get to our home-away-from-home in Pagosa, the fire is burning and coffee is ready for us. The Thanksgiving turkey is resting in the fridge and the herb butter is ready for the bird.

After chatting and food we watch Todd & Leana dress the bird. I'd rather they got their hands full of herb butter than me so I take photos.

Todd is stuck with getting the 'innards' out.

What good friends they are - sparing me from gooey messy herb butter.

Before the turkey goes into the fridge, the bird is artificially inseminated with fruit to keep it moist during the cooking process. Another task I am glad I don't have to do.

Finally, the bird is allowed to rest in the fridge in its stuffed coma state. This is usually when the rest of us go into our stuffed coma state too.
