$150 Fish hook

The boys went camping the weekend I went to the Hacienda. They found a spot at Golden Gate Canyon campsite at the last minute due to a cancellation. The night before the boys had to test out the new shelter/awning so Warren set it up in the living room and the boys slept under it on the air mattress and in sleeping bags.

Warren got home early from work on the Friday and sorted out the camping gear while I set off on my alone weekend away.

On Saturday morning they left for the campsite but made a detour and stopped at Kong to do some fishing. They caught 13 large mouth bass within 30 minutes and the boys were very chuffed with themselves.

They got to the campsite a lunchtime and set everything up. After lunch they went to Dude's Fishing Hole to do some more fishing, had 2 strikes but didn't land anything, so it was a good thing they went to Kong first. When it started raining, they headed back to the campsite but it continued to rain so they went for a drive to Central City & Black Hawk (quaint casino towns). They headed back to the campsite when the rain stopped, built and fire and made supper which was followed by s'mores. They enjoyed the fire until sunset before turning in for the night.

The next morning they were up at 6:30 am and after breakfast decided to go and do some more fishing. Jordan hooked and landed a trout and Warren managed to catch two trout. Warren decided to change the fly on Jordan's line and the hook ended up in Jordan's finger which Warren was able to pull out quite easily. Jordan decided he'd sit out for a while and as he grabbed a root that was sticking out of the embankment, another fly hook got stuck deep into his finger and this time Warren wasn't able to get it out. So they packed up the fishing gear, hiked back to the car and drove an hour to Boulder's nearest hospital.

They numbed Jordan's finger with the biggest injection Warren said he'd ever seen. The doctor injected so much fluid into his hand and his hand was pretty swollen. Having had experience with hooks, the doctor was able to get the hook out of Jordan's finger very easily. Warren said that Jordan was extremely brave during the episode. Twenty five minutes and $150 later, they drove back to the campsite, had lunch and roasted marshmallows on the fire.

They got home later in the afternoon on Sunday with car, clothes, dog, husband and kids smelling of campfire. Jordan's fingers stayed numb for the rest of the day and now he has bragging rights with his friends...all for the low price of $150!
