We took up Deb & Dan's offer of the use of their cabin and went down to Creede which is a 5 hour drive from home. Dan has been building this cabin with is own 2 hands for years and its about 98% finished. The cabin is fully stocked with everything from canned food to Starbucks coffee, from make-up to nail clippers, from binoculars to fishing tackle, from hunting gear to scent-off shampoo and soap.
The cabin is really a 3-bedroom house with 2 bathrooms, 2 living rooms, a big kitchen and a meat room - its a hunter's cabin. The meat room is used by the hunters in the family to chop and cut their kill and the kill ranges from duck and rabbit to elk and moose (although I'm not sure what moose tastes like).

Warren got some fishing in when he could but also got into a lot of trouble when he was 5 hours late getting home from an 'early morning' fishing trip. The plan was to leave at 6 am and be back by 10:30 am so we could go to the waterfall in the afternoon. The boys gave up watching for him with binoculars after 2 hours. By 3:30 pm I had 9-1-1 on speed dial and ready to use it. I wasn't a happy wife when he got home - not because he was late - but because I didn't know where he had gone fishing, whether he'd slipped and drowned or had been in an accident with the car. Our cell phones didn't have coverage in the area so we couldn't contact each other. All was forgiven when I saw the minivan making its way sheepishly back to the cabin...well that's not true...I forgave him about 5 hours later.

The boys had a great time shooting their arrows into the makeshift target that Dan had made from spare pieces of carpet and set up in a frame.

We went into the town to do the Art Walk but it was really just certain stores & 1 art gallery open a couple of hours later than usual. We stopped for ice cream of course!

We went for a short hike around North Creek Waterfall which is where we'd been with Mom & Dad when they went down to Creede with Deb & Dan last September. It was the same as before only the leaves were starting to turn yellow back then.
