SA: Rhino & Lion Park

The Lion & Rhino Park in Magaliesburg was an amazing experience - not only because it was spent with my family but because its been a long time since I've seen my 'native animals' in the wild. The only sad part was that Warren & the boys weren't with us and if they'd been there, it would been a perfect day.

We all set off in various vehicles to the park and thanks to Charlie, we all got on board a large viewing truck and toured the park together. We were able to get really close to a lot of animals - both behind fences and close to the truck - and it was so much fun.

The day was really hot and we had a cooler of drinks and snacks which helped. Our guide filled us in on a few things when we had questions.

We were able to see how they feed the cheetahs from the back of a bakkie which was pretty amazing especially since the woman feeding them had no protection and would have been an easy target if the cheetahs decided they wanted her for lunch instead of the food she was throwing at them (part of a dead horse).

After the tour, we went to the young animal enclosure where I touched a few lion plus Eddie the Cheetah. I later raced against Eddie (thanks to Charlie who volunteered me) in a race that was set up by a ranger who was educating the visitors on the various animals in the park.

The day wouldn't have been complete without a narrow escape from an ellie!!
